Meet The Owner

Hi, I’m Tia or “T” for short! Like my cookies I’m: a little fancy, a little naughty, a little salty with just the right amount of sweetness. Owner, baker, mompreneur if you will!

So, let’s start with how in the world I got into baking? As a young child I discovered my love of two things very early on. Medicine and Food particularly baking but savory as well. These interests were lasting as they followed me into my adult life. I worked in food and beverage for several years as server. Then I decided to finish my degree in medicine so became a cardiovascular sonographer for a few years. Then after years of infertility my husband and I got the surprise of our lives!

We were finally pregnant! Our excitement lasted for a few months. Later, we were informed that there were some complications… I was put on bed rest in the hospital for a month and then the doctors decided to deliver the girls early at 29 weeks. It was the hardest time of our lives. So, as you can imagine our focused shifted a bit. The most important job we now had was to make sure our babies were alive and thriving. We did just that, and after 3 months they were both able to come home. I settle into my new role as a stay-at-home mom.  As they grew and begin to thrive…, mommy looked for things to break up the monotony of breastfeeding, diaper changing and twin wrangling. I’m not sure what I was thinking but looking back, that seems like enough to keep a person entertain… right?!

As the twins first birthday approached, I had big plans. I mean, this was cause for a celebration after the year we just had. So, I set out on my quest to throw an ultimate Pinterest mom party! I tackled the decoration quickly and moved on to the menu. Per tradition they would each would have a little mini “smash” cake. I couldn’t find anything that was not made without a lot of food additives and preservatives at my local store or bakeries.  It was here that I decided that their “smash” must be healthy and made be me. So, I worked up the courage to bake something from scratch, for the first time ever! For the next few weeks, I tried and tried… and cried a little too. In the end I was so happy with how my cakes turned out and the girls gobbled them up too! I was one proud Mommy/Baker! I kept the party train going each year for their birthday and people begin to rave over the delicious baked goods. Other parents would be excited for my girls’ party; because they knew would be able to have some of my delicious treats! They even began to place orders for their kids’ parties before I even had even thought of creating business! I had a business.

Thus, Sweet T’s Cookie Company was born! Today I am a “self-taught baker,” I say that loosely because I have since a child, spent countless hours watching FOOD NETWORK and YOUTUBE learning valuable information.  I want to acknowledge that those are helpful and useful tools that help shape my culinary knowledge today. The most important thing I’ve learned is that the science behind baking is the most important, it’s the foundation. So, in the kitchen I would play around with recipes note what I liked and did not like and begin to develop my own recipes. It’s that trial and error that further deepened my love for baking. I am a little stubborn and I won’t take no for an answer. So, I take pride when I say that we bake from scratch because I’ve worked and continue to work hard at developing new and innovative flavors.

Sweet T’s Cookie Company is built upon the same standards that I set for my daughters. From scratch recipes, baked in small batches, using the highest quality ingredients. Cookies have a funny way of striking up fond memories and creating instant comfort. I love that I can bake something that can bring joy and brighten someone’s entire day! That is the most fulfilling part of having this business!

Still there?! So that’s my journey on becoming a baker, and a little about my family. I’d love to hear your story and get to know you, so please leave me a comment, send me an e-mail, or tag us on social media so we can stay connected! Welcome to the family!
